Stowe—has incredible restaurants, hiking and biking trails, alpine slides, Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory, great shopping and is less that an hour away.
Montpelier—has a couple excellent restaurants, some local craftsmen, nice shopping and a golf course and is less that an hour away.
St. Johnsbury—has 2 big supermarkets, pizza places, some quaint shops, a golf course and a movie theater and is 20 minutes away.
Lake Memphremagog (1/2 the lake is in Canada)—has a great restaurant (The Eastside) and other restaurants, quaint shops and is a little over an hour away.
North Conway, New Hampshire—outlets, great restaurants, a train that you can ride through the mountains, quaint shops—and is about 1 1/2 hours away.
Driving from Delaware, it takes us around 8 hours to get there. That is with 2 small kids and lots of rest stops. We've made it in as little as 7.5 hours and once it took us 10 (got stuck in stand-still traffic from an accident on the George Washington Bridge). There are great stops from here to there, one being the Yankee Candle Factory in Deerfield, Massachusetts—it is right off the highway. They have picnic tables, you can tour the factory, dip candles with the kids, buy candles in any scent imaginable, as well as any candle accessory you can think of, and stretch—and you are about 3 hours away when you leave there.
Joe's Pond—you can see just how big it really is.
